You can handle even a mountain of relationship problems
Which is more powerful, a mountain or a river? Many mountains and valleys were carved out of the land by running water over a long period of time. Rainwater that falls on mountains also erodes the mountains and changes the face of the mountain.
Although a mountain is very big, it is limited in what it can do because it is not moving. Although water is very soft to touch, movement gives it power.
Some of our relationship problems seem like immovable mountains. They seem very tall and immovable, like high mountains of stone. Many couples try to work on their problems by blasting them away with forceful arguments, extreme actions, and deafening silences. They intimidate, they badger, they attack, they defend, and they withdraw. And in the end, the problem still looms large.
But, when we gradually and consistently apply helpful strategies, we wear them down. By doing only one thing better than we did yesterday, we create something that is more enjoyable. Your coach is helping you to take one little step at a time because that is what is best, and easiest, and gets the most satisfying results.
Be like water. It makes life easier. And in the long run, carves out what you want. Remember, water is powerful when it is moving.
