The law of diminishing returns and first contact
The law of diminishing returns says that the more you put into something, the less you will get out of it. For example, walking one mile a day would help you to get into shape, but walking two miles a day would not help you to get into twice as good shape.
This concept can be applied to making new relationships. Greeting, meeting, and a little chit-chat will get you more than a 100% increase in new relationships. Greeting, meeting, and a lot of chit-chat won’t get you much more, though. The extra work can actually get you less.
Whenever possible, first meetings should be brief and positive. This goes for initially meeting someone as well as for the first date. Ideally, the contact or date should end while there is still a tinge of excitement in the air.
Learn what works and do it repeatedly to have more success in your life and relationships. Can you think of a better way?
